Ineos in talks with Ford to produce cars at Bridgend
Chemicals company Ineos is in talks to build a new 4x4 car at Ford’s Bridgend factory.

Ineos founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the UK’s richest person, wants to assemble a vehicle replace the Land Rover Defender, which went out of production in 2016.

Talks come a week after staff at Ford's plant in Bridgend working on the new Jaguar engine have been told not to come into work for five days. The AJ production line at the plant shutdown from 29 October to 2 November.

Ford employs 1750 + people in Bridgend, though there have been concerns about the plant's long-term future. Ford will stop producing engines for Jaguar Land Rover in 2020.

According to the Financial Times, discussions are currently under way about building the new vehicle in Bridgend that could save more than 1,000 jobs.

Ford said it continued to look at high-technology opportunities for the future.
